Developing Speaking Skills Through Speaking - Oriented Workshop

This research  focused on developing speaking skills through the implementation of speaking-oriented workshops. The workshops incorporated the use of puppets as an interaction strategy and were based on “healthy lifestyles” with topics such as: discovering myself, daily routine, food and sports. The researcher used field diary, video recordings, interviews and workshops  to gather information. The use of these workshops caused students became more confident and developed their speaking skills while enhancing their  cooperative learning abilities.

I think  the use of puppets makes  children feel bit safer while at the same time, offering great opportunities to help them improving communication skills, overcome language barriers, and self-control. As i read on the journal that using puppets for teaching children is a traditional way, but in some condition we can create some new ideas in using puppets. I agree that it can gives student more confidence and motivation in learning speaking cause they will make their own puppet and have to interact in certain groups.

But in my opinion, maybe it still a little bit difficult for to teacher because students will not instantly can speak just like i found in this journal. As we know that, elementary students have the lack of vocabularies, and it will not easy for them to start speaking about certain topic. But, it can pretty good if we use it for junior highschool / senior highschool.
