IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY THROUGH THREE-STEP INTERVIEW METHOD

This
research aimed to know the improvement of students speaking ability especially
fluency and accuracy. The researcher used
class action research and the research was conducted in two cycle. In this case, the
researcher wants to be creative in developing teaching learning process to
create good atmosphere, improve the students’ speaking skill, give attention to
the speaking components and make the lesson more interesting.
Students have difficulties in
fluency and accuracy because they seldom speak in English in their daily life. They
also only have little chance to speak in front of others. So the researcher
thought that this technique may help students to improve their speaking
ability.
Interview is a cooperative structure
that helps students personalizes their learning and listen to and appreciate
the ideas and thinking of others. Active listening and paraphrasing by the
interviewer develops understanding and empathy for the thinking of the
interviewee. They can be used as an introduction to an activity or a way to
explore ideas and concepts more deeply. Students also have an opportunity to
develop active listening skills and understand others’ viewpoints.
The indicators of this research are
the students can speak English in terms accuracy focus on pronunciation and
vocabulary while fluently focus on Smoothness and Self-confidence. The researcher
collect the data through observation and speaking test to measure students
speaking skill.
The result showed that there’s an
improvement in students accuracy, they use more vocabularies and place it in
right order and then in fluency the
students speak more fluent in the second and third cycle although they still
feel nervous in first cycle.
