THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THREE – STEP INTERVIEW TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING SPEAKING

The aim of this research is to know whether there is a significant difference of students’ score after being taught through Three – Step Interview, which aspect is the most increase of students’ speaking achievement and  find out which topic is the most effective. We all know that students in Indonesia having difficulties in expressing their idea through speaking. Sometimes the feel uncomfortable to share their ideas because the lack of vocabularies and also they feel reluctant to talk with their partner.
            By using this technique students may enjoy speaking with others and share their idea in more comfortable way, because they’re not only speak in front of the class, but they can ask and response to their partner opinion. They will feel more confidence because the technique only take 2 up to 4 persons in a group.
            Students also can  gather new information by interviewing their partner. After that they can pharaphrase what they’ve heard and it may broader their viewpoint about something. This technique  defined as a cooperative learning technique which unables and motivates members of the  group to acquire certain concept deeply by students role. It is also an adaptable process  in the classroom.
The result showed  that, the third topic (using mobile phone) is the most effective than others because she assumed that the students can enjoy the teaching learning process by  using Three – Step Interview technique and the material was related with their  own daily life. There is an improvement in students speaking ability although sometimes they still looked like memorising the sentence, misspronounce some word such as “students”, “advantages”, “mobile”, “study”.
