I’ve read a journal about using storytelling technique to improve English speaking skill of primary school students. In this journal the writer try to improve students speaking skill by using storytelling because she think that students need more opportunities to show their speaking skill although they still lack in vocabulary.
I’ve read a journal about using storytelling technique to improve English speaking skill of primary school students. In this journal the writer try to improve students speaking skill by using storytelling because she think that students need more opportunities to show their speaking skill although they still lack in vocabulary.
Refers to what the writer said that students have some difficulties in learning speaking such as 1) students had no idea about what to say, 2) some were shy and uncomfortable, 3) some students were afraid of making errors in class because they feared they would be laughed at by their friends, 4) some students were not used to talking in front of the class, 5) some worry that their vocabulary was limited and their pronunciation might not be good, and 6) some students did not want to speak until their leaders have spoken even though these leaders were unofficial.
Beside that, teachers also have problem in teaching speaking include : 1) they use traditional way in teaching speaking that makes their students have low motivation to speak, 2) they did not create a situation in which the students were comfortable and were stimulated to try speaking, and 3) they failed to get the students to speak communicative and effectively either in the classroom or outside of the classroom.
I think this technique is well done by the researcher since she prepared well on every step of task, she asked the students to do it in groups so that the students can be more confident rather than speak in front of the whole class. She also prepared three task for the students not only to improve speaking but also creativity in remake the story. Maybe i can use this technique in my future class to stimulate my student in learning speaking and try to give them more chance.
